Swimming After Plastic Surgery: When Can You Safely Take the Plunge?

Image
Many clients wonder about returning to water activities after plastic surgery, especially during the summer months. How soon can you go swimming after your procedure, and is there any risk to the surgical site? It's generally recommended to wait 3 to 4 weeks after your surgery follow-up treatment period before swimming or exposing the surgical area to water. This allows for proper healing, which typically takes about a month. Once the area is fully healed, you can resume water activities without significant concerns. In summary, if you're planning to undergo plastic surgery and want to swim afterward, it's essential to factor in the recommended healing time before scheduling your procedure.

Timing for Scar Gel Application Following Double Eyelid Surgery

After undergoing double eyelid surgery, scar gel may be prescribed to aid in the recovery process and minimize scarring.  But when should you start applying scar gel, and how long should you continue? It's generally recommended to wait until one week after the stitches have been removed before applying scar gel. Applying it too early may cause discomfort or a tingling sensation at the surgical site. As for how long to use scar gel, it typically ranges from 3 to 6 months, depending on individual recovery speeds.

When Can I Return To Work After Surgery?

Many of our patients engaged in manual labor inquire about the appropriate timeframe to resume work post eye wrinkle surgery or facelift.  If your job entails significant physical activity, it's crucial to determine how long after the surgery you should wait before returning to such labor. In such instances, it is advisable to exercise special caution during the 1-2 weeks following stitch removal. Neglecting this period may increase the risk of infection or reopening of the incision due to excessive sweating. Additionally, it is essential to abstain from lifting heavy objects for a designated period after the surgery.

How Soon after Blepharoplasty Can You Get a Facial?

Many patients have asked us how soon after blepharoplasty they can get a facial.  Is it okay to stimulate the area around your eyes after surgery? You can have a basic facial 2-3 weeks after a blepharoplasty.  However, avoid massage therapies that put too much pressure on your eye area, or the incisional site may get opened again.  For more intense stimulations like Meridian massage, we recommend waiting until one month after the surgery.  Remember, meet your plastic surgeon for a post-operative progress checkup and consultation before getting a facial.

How Long after Plastic Surgery Can You Color or Perm Your Hair?

Many patients have asked us about having their hair done after a plastic surgery.  They wonder when they can have their hair dyed or permed. It is recommended that you get your hair done 1 month after the treatment period.  Hair dyes and perm products can irritate your skin. Therefore, you should avoid having your hair dyed or permed until the surgical site has fully healed. Especially, facelift surgery involves incisions just behind the ears and in the hairline, so you would need to be more careful.  Remember, visit a plastic surgeon for a consultation before getting your hair colored and permed.
