Do I Need to Use Scar Ointment after Lower Blepharoplasty?

Lower blepharoplasty involves making a long incision under the eyelashes and removing fat and saggy skin under the eyes.

Since incisions are made in this surgery, a scar ointment will be prescribed. When should you start applying scar ointment and how long should you use it?

It is advisable to start applying Contractubex scar gel 2-3 weeks after stitches removal. You may feel a tingling sensation in the surgical site if you apply it earlier.

Scar ointment is recommended to apply for 3 to 6 months, and the scars typically fade away 6 months later.

Moreover, after lower eyelid surgery, Steri strips need to be applied onto the ends of the incisions for 3 weeks. It is recommended that you apply Steri strips for at least 3 consecutive months even while sleeping.
