How is SMAS Facelift performed?

If you wish to improve the signs of aging in your facial skin, you can undergo a surgical Facelift. The facelift is a cosmetic surgery that lifts flabby skin and makes skin smooth and tight. This procedure is the most effective treatment for the improvement of facial wrinkles and skin sagging. What exactly is a facelift and how is it performed?

A SMAS facelift is a surgical procedure that targets the lower 2/3rd of the face. The doctor removes excess skin and repositions fat and muscles. The surgery involves the incisions that are made in front of the ears, continues up to the earlobe area, and ends behind the ears. Through these incisions, the facial skin, underlying tissues, and muscles are lifted. Then the sagging skin is removed and the stitches are closed. For 1-2 days after the surgery, you may have a small tube placed under your skin to help you get rid of excess fluid and blood.

Generally, the operation takes around 3 to 4 hours to complete. When combined with other cosmetic procedures like laser liposuction, it might take a longer time.
