How to remove moles?
Many patients wonder about the methods of removing moles. There are two methods used at our clinic to remove moles: surgical and non-surgical.
First of all, let us start to define what a mole is. In medical terms, a mole is also called a “nevus." It is a congenital skin lesion or birthmark caused by abnormal pigmentation or the proliferation of blood vessels. Moles can be raised or spread along the skin surface.
Non-surgical mole removal involves using a CO2 laser to remove the mole. The procedure does not take much time, just about 5~10 minutes. After the procedure, it is necessary to change the water-proof bandages regularly so that water does not get into the procedure site.
A surgical mole removal method is recommended to remove large moles. Laser removal of large moles might leave noticeable scarring. Therefore, surgical mole removal would be more effective than laser in this case.
During the surgery, the surgeon slices away the mole and sutures the site of the removed mole. After the surgery, it is necessary to visit the clinic for dressing, The stitches will be taken on the 3rd or 5th day after the surgery.
Before the surgery, it is pivotal to discuss with a board-certified plastic surgeon or dermatologist which method best suits you considering the size of the moles.
