Everything about Liposuction

Body contouring or liposuction is a cosmetic procedure done to remove fat from the body, especially from the abdomen, sides, hips or thighs, and arms. Liposuction contours the body apart from removing fat.

Liposuction is not a method to lose weight. If one intends to lose weight, liposuction will not be of much help. To achieve weight loss, one should do exercises and stick to the right diet routine. Rather a much amount of fat in a specific area of the body can be removed.

When we gain weight, fat cells also become bigger both in size and volume. Liposuction destructs and reduces the fat cells in the specific area of the body.

After the liposuction, the skin gets into the new contour if the skin elasticity is good. However, if the skin elasticity is low, then the skin might look loose in the surgery area.

Before the surgery, it is recommended to stop taking any blood thinner medications at least 2~3 weeks before the surgery, and inform the doctor about the medical history and conditions, along with medication one is currently taking. One must not eat or drink 2 hours before the surgery.

After marking the surgery target areas, the doctor injects a solution to make the fat-removing process easier and painless. Then the surgeon makes tiny punctures on the body through which he inserts a tube to remove fat. The surgery is conducted under local anesthesia.

There might be some pain or swelling after the surgery. Therefore, the surgeon prescribes a list of medications to reduce pain and swelling. Usually, swelling should away in 3 or more weeks. To maintain the long-lasting effect of the surgery, it is important to wear a compression garment and control weight with diet and exercise.
