What to know about IPL?

IPL or intense pulsed light is a laser treatment reducing scars and lightening the skin. It is also used to improve spider veins (dilated blood vessels on the face or legs).

IPL works in the same way as the other types of lasers. The difference between IPL and other lasers is that IPL delivers several wavelengths, while other lasers are just limited to a single wavelength delivery.

One can treat large areas of the skin within a short time because of its multiple wavelengths.

IPL is effective in treating skin pigmentation or damaged skin cells. Also, it removes unwanted hair on the body. At She's Plastic Surgery Clinic, IPL is used to address the following issues.

- Post-acne scars or acne scars

- Skin pigmentation

- Stretch marks

- Skin damaged due to sun exposure

- Wrinkles

The result of IPL may appear differently depending on a person's condition. Most of the time, the dermatologist might recommend several sessions of IPL to achieve the desired effect.

The number of IPL sessions depends on each person’s treatment plan.

A numbing cream is applied before the IPL procedure. After 10 minutes, a numbing cream is cleansed, and the doctor starts treating the target area by applying the laser.

During the procedure, one might have a stinging feeling and redness after the treatment. However, that will subside within 4 or 8 hours. One can apply an ice-pack to alleviate potential redness.
