What is alarplasty?

Alarplasty, also known as alar base reduction, is a type of plastic surgery that corrects the shape of the nose. It is suitable for people who wish to improve the appearance of the flared or prominent nostrils. You can also consider alarplasty as one type of rhinoplasty.

What does the surgery involve? A plastic surgeon makes an external incision on the side of the nostrils, removes some part of the tissues, and put stitches on it. By doing so, the doctor could narrow flared nose.

A patient can be applied local or general anesthesia depending on the patient's condition. After the surgery, the nose might swell and stay red for 1 or 2 weeks. Swelling and redness vary by individuals. Incision scars also should become almost invisible within one to three months.

We recommend that you consult with a board-certified plastic surgeon about the surgery in detail and realistic outcomes. Dr.Kim is a board-certified plastic surgeon with a twenty-year experience in plastic surgery.
