Breast reduction

Breast reduction or reduction mammoplasty is a surgery through which the size of breasts is reduced. A doctor will cut and remove excess tissue, fat, and skin from both breasts. Reduction mammoplasty is an outpatient procedure that does not cause any serious complications or side effects.

Before going into the details of the breast reduction surgery, let us find out why women want to reduce the size of their breasts. One of the reasons why women undergo this surgery is because of the pain that they feel in the neck, shoulders, and back.

The preparation for the surgery starts from the consultation with a plastic surgeon. After the doctor examines breasts and decides if the patient is the right candidate for the surgery, then a patient must submit a mammogram or other additional medical examination results before the surgery. The patient must inform the doctor about the history of illness, any drugs or medications that they usually take. And the most important thing a doctor might require from the patient is not to drink or eat before the operation.

The surgeon makes an incision in the areola area and then removes the excessive part of the breast tissue. The size of the breast is reduced as a result of removing the excessively large amount of fat and mammary gland. The doctor can make an incision either in the areola or below it. The surgeon can mainline both the size of the breast and areola. When it comes to post-surgery guidelines, one must take prescribed medications after the surgery. For 2~3 weeks after the stitch removal, one should avoid all kinds of strenuous exercises, sauna, and alcohol.
